Bio
Joe Legare is the Chief Strategy Officer at H&B Defence and is a proven leader with 40 years of experience in the nuclear industry. He served as a US Navy Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Officer onboard the USS Hyman G. Rickover (SSN 709), executed policy and operations roles with the US Department of Energy decommissioning program, and as an industry leader executing complex environmental cleanup objectives. He is a seasoned organisational leader managing contracts up to $2B and teams of up to 650 employees while maintaining nuclear work culture standards. Key positions include General Manager of the 90-site former Manhattan project nation-wide legacy management program, Executive Officer of the $2B Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup program in New Mexico, and Federal Assistant Manager of the $6B ten-year decommissioning of the Rocky Flats Plant in Colorado.
Joe has ethically and enthusiastically led small groups and large organizations throughout his career, serving as mentor and coach to staff and trusted advisor to Boards of Managers, clients and other organization leaders. He is a consensus builder with extensive stakeholder experience, aligning client, regulator, community and industry objectives through effective risk communication, collaboration and consensus building. His leadership abilities are recognized in government appraisals and in the US Congressional Record.
Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Florida, Master of Science and Engineering degree from Colorado School of Mines and qualified as submarine nuclear engineer officer.
